Susan Haag Honored as 2025 New York State Town Clerk of the Year
May 13, 2025 – Syracuse, NY – The New York State Town Clerks Association (NYSTCA) proudly announces that Susan Haag, Town Clerk of Austerlitz, has been named the 2025 New York State Town Clerk of the Year in recognition of her professionalism, dedication, and contributions to her community and the clerk profession statewide.
With 24 years of service, Haag has held numerous leadership positions within NYSTCA, including President, Vice President (1st, 2nd, 3rd), Secretary, District Director, and Ex-Officio. She has been instrumental in education, legislative advocacy, and professional development through her work on multiple committees. Additionally, she has contributed to the Columbia Greene County Municipal Clerks Association, the New York State Association of Towns, and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Association, where she currently serves as the Region 1 District Director and is recognized as an Athenian Fellow and Facilitator.
Haag’s dedication extends beyond professional leadership. She has received prestigious designations as a Registered Municipal Clerk (RMC), Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), and Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) from national and international clerk organizations. Her colleagues, including town clerks across New York, nominated her for this esteemed award, acknowledging her mentorship, advocacy, and steadfast commitment to the clerk profession.
In addition to her municipal duties, Haag has demonstrated unwavering service to her community, both professionally and personally. She played a pivotal role in ensuring clerks could continue education and training during the challenges of COVID, spearheading a remote-access Annual Clerk’s Conference ensuring that training and professional development would continue during that difficult time. She also coordinated a Clerk Meet and Greet Tour throughout her county, fostering stronger professional networks among clerks.
Beyond her government role, Haag has exemplified community leadership through her involvement in Awana, Operation Christmas Child, and local outreach initiatives. Her passion for service and education underscores her commitment to excellence and public service.
The NYSTCA is honored to recognize Susan Haag as the 2025 New York State Town Clerk of the Year, commending her extraordinary contributions to both her local government and the broader clerk profession. Selected by the NYSTCA Clerk of the Year Committee—comprised of Denis Noncarrow (Town of Southold), Allison May (Town of Mamaroneck), and Jennifer Bray (Town of Sardinia)—Haag was chosen for her exceptional leadership and commitment to the advancement of municipal clerks in New York State.
The New York State Town Clerks Association (NYSTCA) is a professional organization dedicated to supporting 933 Town Clerks across New York State. Founded in 1982 by Margaret Lamoree, the Association provides educational opportunities and promotes the professional development of Town Clerks, helping them grow as administrative leaders within their communities.
